I wish that I could work methodically this way. I operate in fits and starts and bursts, a very emotionally driven workflow for writing. I’m always writing in my head, and I need lots of smaller projects that I can work on while the big ideas churn in the back of my mind.
I definitely find that the approach I outlined here really only works consistently for me in the editing/dev department, I think because it's such a different brain space from pure creation/writing. I totally am the same way around always writing in my head and I think your approach of small projects between the big ones (while they cook internally in the background) is a good one. I know I find that I can worn down easily if I'm just focusing on one project too much.
